AIA Houston and the Texas Society of Architects are working with FEMA and local officials to deploy trained volunteers to assess whether damaged building are safe for habitation, and this AIA Safety Assessment Program training provides architects, engineers, building officials and inspectors with the knowledge to evaluate these buildings and facilities in the aftermath of a disastrous event. Over the weekend I completed the 6-hour training course, and I'm looking forward to volunteering and helping our city to recover and rebuild.
Special thanks to Trepex Construction, The Javelin Group, DFD Architects, and Whiting-Turner for sponsoring this program, and to Kirksey for hosting the session.
